Finance

Here at Oaklodge we can supply you with detailed advice with regard to resident financing, whether it be self-financed or via the HSE Fair Deal Support Scheme.

FAIR DEAL

The Nursing Home Support Scheme, also known as the “Fair Deal” scheme is a scheme of financial support for people who need long term residential care services.  Under the Nursing Homes Support Scheme people make a contribution towards the cost of their care and the State pays the balance.

The Nursing Home Support Scheme is administered by the HSE in line with the legislation (Nursing Homes Support Scheme Act 2009) and within the resources  made available for the scheme.  Applicants cannot avail of the State funding for a Nursing Home prior to receiving approval for their Fair Deal application.  Under the Nursing Home Support Scheme, prices charged are agreed between the Private Nursing Home and the National Treatment Purchase Fund.  A weekly price for the cost of care in Public Homes is also provided.  Read more about the cost of care..  The scheme has a number of steps and these are set out in the detailed Nursing Homes Support Scheme Information Booklet.

Applications for “FAIR DEAL” funding should be made direct to the HSE by:

  • Completing Form NHSS1 available on the HSE website, or
  • Contacting or calling to the HSE Nursing Home Support Office, Floor 1 Aras Slainte, Wilton Road, Cork telephone 021-4923536, or
  • Contact telephone number: 1850 24 1850.

The application process has 3 parts:

  • A Care Needs Assessment – to confirm medical eligibility
  • A Financial Assessment – to assess your financial contribution
  • Payment Approval – to accept you for payment and admission into the scheme.

On completion of the application form you will be notified of the assessed financial contribution you will pay under the scheme, and receive a list of all approved nursing homes. You can then choose a home on the list subject to the following three conditions:

  • The home must cater for your specific needs
  • The home must have a place available for you
  • The HSE approves you for payment

Following admission, your assessed financial contribution will be invoiced to you by the Home monthly, together with any additional charges not covered by Fair Deal, a list of these are available on request or on admission. The HSE pays the difference between your assessed financial contribution and the agreed Fair Deal fee of your chosen nursing home. Currently the agreed Fair Deal fee for St Luke’s Home is €1,200 per week.

Private Fees:

Should you not be eligible for, or decide not to avail of “Fair Deal” you may elect to pay the total cost of care fee directly to Oaklodge Nursing Home, which will be invoiced directly to you each month in advance.

Admission will still be via our waiting list, and be subject to our own assessment of need.
